1. Sterilization of surgical instruments
Sterilization tape can be used for monitoring the outside of high-pressure steam sterilization packages for metal instruments such as surgical forceps and scissors. The tape is attached to the outer layer of the sterilization package. After 20 minutes of high-pressure steam sterilization or 4-6 minutes of pre-vacuum sterilization, the color changes from yellow to black, which visually verifies that the temperature and time meet the standards. Cardiac surgical instrument packages require multi-layer packaging, and the tape simultaneously assumes the functions of fixation and sterilization status identification. For electronic laparoscopes, fiber optic instruments, etc. that require low-temperature plasma sterilization, the tape confirms the penetration effect of the sterilizer through color changes to prevent cross-infection caused by sterilization failure.
2. Observe the sterilization process
Unsterilized packages: The tape maintains its original color (such as yellow and red);
Sterilized packages: After color change, it is used as a visual mark to prevent confusion.
If the tape changes color unevenly (such as partial blackening), it indicates that the steam penetration in the package is insufficient, the sterilization parameters are abnormal, or the loading is too tight, and re-sterilization is required.
3. Application in special medical scenarios
Artificial joints, heart stents and other implants need to be double-verified by combining the indicator card inside the package (placed in the center of the package) and the tape outside the package to ensure that the sterilant has fully penetrated. After the high-risk infectious medical waste is packaged, the color change of the tape confirms that it has been sterilized to reduce the risk of hospital infection. In high-level pathogenic microorganism laboratories, it is used to verify the performance of the sterilizer and ensure the harmless treatment of experimental waste.
